Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey baseball team pounded out 14 runs on 17 hits and received an outstanding pitching effort from freshman
Evan Edelman (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) as they defeated St. Joseph's College of Long Island 14-1 on Tuesday afternoon in George Ackerman Park.
Edelman (2-1) tossed a complete game and limited the Golden Eagles (9-14) to five hits and an unearned run in the first inning. He tossed eight scoreless innings after the opening frame, walking just one batter and striking out a career-best seven to record his second straight win.

Scott Kelly (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-North) finished with three hits in the game. His second hit, an RBI-triple to left-center, was the 200
th of his career at TCNJ. Kelly becomes just the 10
th player in the Lions' program history to reach the 200-hit milestone.

Michael Murphy (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) had two hits in the win as did freshmen
Garen Turner (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and
John Rizzi (Long Hill, NJ/Watchung Hills). Kelly drove in three runs in the game, while junior
Joe Dispoto (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and rookie
Peter Kennedy (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) knocked in a pair.
After the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Lions struck back with a pair in the third. Freshman
Mark Mari (Bayonne, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) drew a walk and scored all the way from first when Kelly doubled to left field. Kelly promptly stole third base and continued home on an errant throw to take a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, Turner singled and stole second base. He scored on a base hit off the bat of
Michael Murray (Stewartsville, NJ/Philipsburg). Dispoto walked with the bases loaded to plate
Pat Roberts (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and sophomore
Josh Limon (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) lifted a sacrifice fly to left to give the Lions a 5-1 advantage.
TCNJ put up a four-spot in the fifth to pull away. Roberts roped a run-scoring double to left-center and Kelly came to the plate later in the inning with runners on second and third. He drilled a shot into the gap and slid in safely to third with a triple for his milestone achievement.
A total of 12 different players registered hits for the Lions. The tacked on five more in the eighth, highlighted by Kennedy lacing a two-run double for his first collegiate hit.
Frank Trionfo suffered the loss for St. Joseph's. Alex Ras and Kenny Willms had hits for the Golden Eagles.
TCNJ is back in George Ackerman Park on Thursday when they take on New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent William Paterson University at 3:30 p.m.
