Montclair, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team saw its season-opening eight-game winning streak come to a close on Saturday as the Lions dropped a narrow 1-0 game at Montclair State University in a showdown of nationally-ranked programs.
 
The fourth-ranked Lions fell to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Red Hawks remained undefeated at 9-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
 
The hosts netted the only goal of the game with 21:20 left in the second half when Shawna Grabowski headed in a corner kick.
 
Senior keeper Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) tied a career high with seven saves in the game.
 
The Red Hawks held an 11-7 edge in shots.
 
Conference play for the Lions continues on Wednesday, October 2 at Rutgers-Camden. Game time is 7 p.m.
