Box Score

Wayne, NJ … The College of New Jersey baseball team suffered a 6-0 loss at the hands of William Paterson University on Thursday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.

Pioneer starter Anthony DeEsposito went seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out four to move to 3-0 on the season. WPU improved to 9-11 and 3-3-1 in the NJAC, while the Lions dropped to 15-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

TCNJ will have another shot at the Pioneers tomorrow as they visit George Ackerman Park tomorrow (Friday) at 3:30 p.m.

WPU raced ahead early with two runs in the opening frame and three more in the second. Trevor Haughney and Jimmy Kenny did a large portion of the damage in those innings. Haughney singled in a run and Kenny followed with an RBI-double in the first. With the bases loaded in the second, Haughney drove in all three runners with a double to right-center. Kenny knocked in Haughney with a base hit up the middle and it was quickly 5-0.

Another run in the fourth increased their lead to 6-0. That would turn out to be the extent of the scoring as TCNJ left 11 runners on base in defeat.

Junior Josh Limon (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) went 3-for-4 on the day, compiling half of the Lions' hits. Classmate Anthony Cocuzza (Absecon, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), junior Michael Murray (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg), and  freshman Ben Varone (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) each had a hit in the loss.

Sophomore Evan Edeleman (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) settled in after a rocky start and pitched all eight innings for TCNJ. He struck out four in suffering his first loss.

TCNJ returns home tomorrow before heading to Ramapo College on Saturday for an NJAC doubleheader.
