Oneonta, NY... For the second time in the last three seasons, The College of New Jersey women's soccer team ventured to Oneonta, NY to participate in the Mayor's Cup Tournament co-hosted by SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College. Just like they did in 2012, the Lions won a pair of games and claimed the title. Â
Â
TCNJ (4-0) secured this year's crown with a 6-0 win over Hartwick College (3-1) on Sunday as they scored three times in each half to collect its second victory in as many days.
Â
The Lions won the opening game of this year's tournament with a 2-0 triumph over SUNY Oneonta and finished the two games outscoring the opposition 8-0.
Â
Four players earned a spot on the all-tournament team led by senior goalie
Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), senior defender
Jordan Downs (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial), junior midfielder
Shannon White (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and junior defender
Brianna Cummings (Belmar, NJ/Ocean County).
Griffith was also named the defensive most valuable player in the tournament and White took MVP honors on offense.
Â
White initiated the scoring 20:35 into the game as she tallied her first of the season, which turned out to be the eventual game winner.
Â
Senior
Korrie Harkins (Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and junior
Justine Larocca (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) then tacked on goals that came 4:38 apart to quickly pad the margin to 3-0 in the latter stages of the opening half. Larocca's goal was assisted by sophomore
Marissa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, NY/Pearl River).Â
TCNJ's offense kept finding the back of the net in the second half with sophomore
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) recording her second goal of the season just 1:26 into the fresh period.
Â
White struck again 10:34 into the half as the lead ballooned to 5-0, while senior
Gina Caprara (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) capped the scoring with just over 10 minutes left in the game with her team-leading fourth of the season. Harkins garnered an assist on the play.
Â
Griffith stopped the only shot on goal the Lions allowed in the game as she shared the shutout with senior
Tara Fisher (Glenwood, NJ/Pope John XXIII).

Â
TCNJ has the week off before facing its biggest test of the young season when they head to fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, September 13 for a 7 p.m. start.
