Ewing, NJ... Sophomore
Abigail Emmert (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks East) scored off a rebound midway through the second overtime as The College of New Jersey women's soccer team came away with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ramapo College on Saturday.
Â
After the teams went through a scoreless opening 10-minute extra session, the Lions earned the win as senior
Taylor Lusardi (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) headed a shot off of the post that Emmert quickly pounced and deposited into the Roadrunner net to clinch the win.
Â
The win kept ninth-ranked TCNJ unbeaten on the season as they moved to 11-0-3 overall and 6-0-1 against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents. The loss put Ramapo at 8-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play.
Â
Prior to the start of the game, TCNJ recognized its five seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. Honored in a brief ceremony were
Justine Larocca (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley),
Christina Roach (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson),
Brianna Cummings (Belmar, NJ/Ocean County),
Lusardi and
Jessica Weeder (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central).Â
The only goals in regulation were separated by a mere 16 seconds. The Roadrunners claimed a 1-0 lead on a goal by
Gabriella DiLiberto (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick). That goal came 11:58 into the contest.
Â
On the ensuing kickoff, the Lions quickly went on the attack with sophomore
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) going down the win. She sent a crossing pass into the Ramapo penalty area where a charging junior
Marissa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, NY/Pearl River) headed the ball in for her fourth goal of the season.
Â
The Lions carried play in the second half, but the game still went to overtime. TCNJ had two chances to pick up the win in the opening overtime as Scognamiglio had both of those opportunities. Each time she was stopped by Ramapo keeper
Jessica Cusik (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley).
Â
Cusik did her best to help the Roadrunners come away with a time as she finished with 12 saves.
Â
Sophomore keeper
Briyanna Femia (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) won her second straight start for the Lions as she collected three saves.
