TCNJ nets key 2-0 road win over MSU

Montclair, NJ... Two goals in the opening 16 minutes got The College of New Jersey women's soccer team off to a fast start and the Lions made that score stand as they came away with a key 2-0 road win at Montclair State University on Saturday.

The victory put 11th-ranked TCNJ in sole possession of first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with 10 points as they are 3-0-1 in league play. They are also unbeaten overall at 7-0-3.

The loss was the first since the season opener for the 23rd-ranked Red Hawks as they dropped to 8-2-1 and 2-1-1 in the conference.

Junior Sarah Marion (Hightstown, NJ/The Peddie School) gave the visitors the lead just 3:23 into the game. That goal came on an assist from senior Christina Roach (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson).

The Lions doubled that advantage with 15:53 expired in the game when sophomore Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) buried her second of the season. Earning an assist on the play was sophomore Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic).

Senior keeper Jessica Weeder (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) notched her eighth solo shutout of the season, finishing with three saves.

Up next for TCNJ is a non-conference game on Tuesday, October 6 when they host Virginia Wesleyan College at 4 p.m.
