Lions set to host NJAC playoff games on Saturday

Ewing, NJ ... Packer Hall will be buzzing tomorrow as The College of New Jersey men's and women's basketball teams will play host to first round games in the 2015 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

The fourth-seeded women's team opens up at 1 p.m. as they will take on fifth-seeded William Paterson University. TCNJ men's basketball finished third in the conference and will square off against sixth-seeded New Jersey City University at 3 p.m.

In the women's game, the Lions (15-10) enter the tournament on a season best six-game winning streak, with four of those victories coming in Packer Hall. One of those wins was a 78-68 triumph over the Pioneers (14-11) to complete the season sweep. TCNJ also won at William Paterson in January by the score of 78-67.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the conference semifinals, set for Wednesday, February 25 at top-seeded Montclair State University.

These teams also met in last year's tournament with the Pioneers upending the Lions on their home floor, 81-70.

In the men's game, the Lions and Gothic Knights split their season series. TCNJ (15-10) won the first meeting in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory 61-59 in Packer Hall. The Lions trailed 19-0 and never held a lead in the game until sophomore Eric Klacik drained a jump shot with four seconds remaining in the game. NJCU (12-13) answered back four weeks later with a 63-58 triumph.

TCNJ won its final three conference games to earn a home game in the playoffs. They have captured seven of their last nine contests and qualified for the post-season for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

The winner of the opening round game will visit William Paterson University for the semifinal match at 7 p.m. on Tuesday  night.

NJAC prices for tickets tomorrow will be $5 for adults and $2  for children, students and seniors. Because this is a conference tournament event, all fans must purchase a ticket.
