Game Recap: Lacrosse |

Lions finish strong in win over Cabrini

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team scored the game's final six goals to shake off a pesky Cabrini College as the Lions posted a 16-6 win on Tuesday.

TCNJ (2-0) held a 10-6 lead with 18 minutes left in regulation and put the game away with a flourish. The Lions scored four times in just over four minutes as the lead quickly ballooned to 14-6. Senior Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South), senior Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan), freshman Christina Costantino (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah), and Borup again accounted for those goals.

Once TCNJ extended that lead, they worked the clock and tacked on two more goals in the final nine minutes to stay undefeated.

Borup had a big game for the Lions as she collected 10 points on six goals and four assists. With those six goals, she eclipsed the 100-goal mark for her career as she now has 105. Junior Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) added three goals, all in the second half, and Healy scored twice and assisted on two others.

Goalkeeper Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) finished with three saves as she notched her second straight victory.

The Lions got off to a fast start scoring on their first three shots of the game. Senior Ava Fitzgerald (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) got the first goal 2:56 into the contest and sophomore Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA/Field School) doubled that lead nearly two minutes later.

After Cabrini (0-4) got its first goal, the Lions scored three straight to push their lead to 5-2. Fitzgerald got the first in that run, while Healy and Borup followed.

The teams then traded two goals each in the final 18 minutes of the period as TCNJ held a 7-3 advantage at the break.

This Lions head to Messiah College on Saturday, March 14 as they take on the Falcons in a 1 p.m. start.
