Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey and Gettysburg College got in some extra work in the season opener for both women's soccer programs as the teams finished in a 0-0 tie on Tuesday, September 1 under the lights at Lions Stadium.
Â
The ninth-ranked Lions and the Bullets both start the season with 0-0-1 records after battling through 110 minutes.
Â
The best chance for either team in the first half came just 3:02 into the game when TCNJ was awarded a free kick at the top of the Gettysburg penalty area. Sophomore
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) took the shot for the Lions that went inches over the cross bar.
Â
Gettysburg keeper
Eliza Gray (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) kept the game scoreless in the second half making a pair of high-light reel saves. The first was a diving stop on a shot by Goldman, while she reached back to rob
Sarah Marion (Hightstown, NJ/The Peddie School) on the other. Marion's scoring bid came when she headed a direct kick by
Brianna Petro (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan).
Â
In goal for the Lions, senior
Jessica Weeder (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) earned a shutout as she stopped the only shot she faced.
Â
Gray was steady for Gettysburg, finishing with six saves.
Â
TCNJ plays another non-conference game this weekend when they head to Widener University to take on the Pride. That game is set for Sunday, September 6 at 4 p.m.
