Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Douglas leads Lions past Cabrini

Ewing, NJ... Junior Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) had a huge night for The College of New Jersey field hockey team as she recorded the hat trick and added a pair of assists in a 6-1 triumph over Cabrini College on Tuesday.

The win put the top-ranked Lions at 4-0 on the season and ran their winning streak to 19 dating back to last fall. The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 1-3.

The hosts needed only 3:14 to get on the scoreboard when senior Alicia Wagner (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) pounced on a rebound to open the scoring.

The Cavaliers tied the game with 8:02 left before the break on a redirect by Kerry Anne Farrell (Drexel Hill, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) on a centering pass from Taylor Mack (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert).

The Lions got a big boost just before the half, cashing in on a penalty corner. Douglas inserted the ball to junior Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.), who ripped a shot through traffic that gave TCNJ a 2-1 lead. That goal came with only 1:09 left in the period.

Douglas scored the opening two goals of the second half with senior Mikayla Cimilluca (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) assisting on the first and freshman Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) the second.

TCNJ extended the lead to 5-1 when freshman Taylor Barrett (Neshanic Station, NJ/Hunterdon Station) knocked in a pass from Douglas.

Douglas capped off her eight-point performance when she completed the hat trick with 3:47 left in the game. With those eight points, Douglas now leads the team with 17 points in four games on six goals and five assists.

Goalie Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) collected her fourth win of the season with three saves.

The Lions face their biggest test of the young season this Saturday, September 19 when they host 20th-ranked Messiah College at 6 p.m.
