Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

TCNJ falls to Rutgers-Newark on late goal

Newark, NJ... Rutgers-Newark's Isaiah Kuris scored with three seconds remaining in regulation to help the Scarlet Raiders hold off The College of New Jersey men's soccer team 3-2 on Saturday night.

That goal came just over two minutes after the Lions had tied the game.

The loss was the first of the season for 18th-ranked TCNJ as they fell to 5-1-2 overall and 0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers-Newark has won six straight games and are 7-2 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Scarlet Raiders led 1-0 at the half, but the Lions knotted things up midway through the period. Freshmen Nick Provenzano (Stocton, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) teamed up for a goal 20:02 into the period. Provenzano picked up his first collegiate goal with an assist from Sample.

The game didn't stay tied long as Rutgers-Newark forged back ahead with a goal 1:35 later.

TCNJ's Thomas Hogue (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic) scored with 2:21 left to tie the game at 2-2 as it appeared the Lions were headed to overtime. Just like the first goal, this was assisted by Sample as well.

The Scarlet Raiders then avoided overtime with the late goal to keep their winning streak en tact.

Junior Jake Nesteruk (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) made four saves.

TCNJ is home this coming Wednesday, September 23 when they host Drew University for a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
