Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lions knock off #23 Drew, 3-1

Ewing, NJ... For the second time this season, The College of New Jersey men's soccer team knocked off a ranked opponent. The Lions notched that win when they posted a 3-1 win over 23rd-ranked Drew University on Wednesday.

The victory put TCNJ at 6-1-2 on the season with one of the wins earlier in the season coming against 21st-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology.

The loss was the first of the year for the Randers as they fell to 6-1-1.

TCNJ used two quick goals in the opening period to get the jump on the Rangers with those scores coming 2:12 apart. Junior Nick Costelloe (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) headed in a direct kick from senior Dan McMillan (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) to open the scoring. That goal came 17:23 into the game.

Freshman Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) doubled that lead minutes later as he weaved his way down the near wing and put a low shot off the far post for his third goal of the season.

Drew cut that margin in half minutes into the second half on direct kick off of the foot of Benjamin Audi (Paramus, NJ/Paramus).

The score remained 22-1 until there was 15:14 left when Lion sophomore Peter Dresch (Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph's) cut to the middle of the field and tucked a low shot inside the far post.

Junior Jake Nesteruk (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) recorded his sixth win of the season as he finished with a pair of saves.

TCNJ is home again this weekend when they return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play when they host Kean University at 1 p.m.
