Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions Win First NJAC Contest

TCNJ defeated William Paterson by a score of 7-0

Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey field hockey team hosted William Paterson this afternoon in their first New Jersey Athletic Conference game of the season. The #11 ranked Lions (6-3; 1-0 NJAC) defeated the Pioneers (5-5; 0-1 NJAC) by a score of 7-0.

Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Township) started the scoring just three minutes into the game when she received the ball off a corner play, dodged a defender and took a hard shot past the goalie.

Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) made the score 2-0 off a rebound just over 15 minutes later for her seventh goal of the season.

One minute later Smith added TCNJ's third goal on a penalty stroke to make it a 3-0 game.

The last goal of the first half came from Danielle Andreula (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt). Douglas was on the left side of the net and passed to Andreula who was standing in front of the goalie. She then redirected the ball into the right side of the goal.

Douglas tallied her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Smith received the ball off a corner play and sent it to Douglas, who found the back of the net.

Freshman Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) netted her fifth goal of the season five minutes later. Andrews popped a rebound ball from a defender, up and over the goalie's head to make the score 6-0.

Douglas completed a hat trick in beautiful fashion with the last goal of the contest. Andrews crossed the ball to Douglas, who then spun and reverse swept it in to tally the Lions' seventh goal.

Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) earned the start in net and made one save. Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) came in for the last twenty minutes to finish out the game.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, October 4 when they travel to Rowan for a 7 p.m. NJAC contest.
