TCNJ Downs Rowan to Remain Perfect in NJAC

The Lions earned a 2-0 victory over the Profs

Senior Night Insert

Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey women's soccer team hosted Rowan University for their last regular season NJAC contest. Both teams came into the match unbeaten and vying for the number one seed in the NJAC tournament.

TCNJ battled and came away with a 2-0 victory to earn the top spot heading into the post season. The Lions now hold a 15-0-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 in the NJAC.

After a hard fought first half, the game remained scoreless. The Lions did have the offensive advantage however, as they outshot the Profs 3-0.

TCNJ's closest shot at a goal in the first half came as time was winding down and Abigail Emmert (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks East) took a hard shot from 20 yards out that sailed just high of the net.

The Lions struck first in the 66th minute of the game when Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) netted her 16th goal of the season. Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) started things off by carrying the ball down the sideline and crossing it in front of the net. Levering was in perfect position to head the ball up over the goalie and into the top left corner of the goal.

Freshman Taylor Nolan (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) extended the lead to 2-0 when she tallied her second career goal. She received a pass from Marykate Sullivan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) and fired a shot from the top right corner of the box that sailed into the left side of the net.

Jessica Weeder (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) got the start in net for the Lions and made one save during the contest to earn her ninth shutout of the season.

TCNJ earns a first round bye in the NJAC Tournament so they will return to Lions Stadium on Wednesday, November 2 when they host Kean University in the NJAC Semifinals. The contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
