Galloway, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's basketball team (4-2, 2-0 NJAC) closed out the game on a 10-0 run over the final 5:20, including the game's only lead change to defeat Stockton University (2-2, 0-2 NJAC) 66-62 in a rematch of the 2016 NJAC Tournament final.
The Ospreys came out hot connecting on their first three shots including back-to-back three-pointers from Tom Catanoso to jump out to an 8-0 lead. Catanoso finished the game with 19 points on 7-11 shooting, including 5-8 from behind the arc.
Trailing 21-10, the Lions used a 13-4 run, six points from
Eric Murdock, Jr. (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater) and four from
Bobby Brackett (Lawrenceville, NJ / Lawrence) to cut the deficit to two. Murdock, Jr finished with a game high 23 points and seven assists with Brackett achieving another double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
Stockton led at the break 31-28.
The Ospreys were hot again to start the second half using a 10-1 run, eight points by Brandon Hamilton, to again push the lead into double digits. Hamilton scored 14 points to go with three boards and three assists in the loss.
Down 47-36, TCNJ went on a 11-3 run, six points by Murdock, Jr. and five by
Elias Bermudez (Westwood, NJ / Westwood), to cut the lead to just three at 50-47. Bermudez had seven points and four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.
Minutes later the Lions would tie the game, for the first time since 0-0, at 54-54 on a
Corey Stanford (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Trafford) three-pointer. Stanford scored 16 points and secured nine rebounds.
The Lions secured their first lead when Brackett hit a lay-up with just 1:23 remaining in the game, and the 10-0 run was capped by Murdock, Jr. finding
Kevin Bloodgood (Oceanport, NJ / Shore Regional) who layed-up the open opportunity for the final score.
TCNJ out shot Stockton 44.4% (24-54) to 36.4% (24-66).
The Lions return home to face Kean University with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.
