Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey baseball team used timely hitting and steady arms to secure a 10-6 victory over Steven Institute of Technology on Tuesday afternoon at George Ackerman Park.

The Lions (2-0) battled back from an early 4-0 deficit to win their second straight.
Sophomore Joe Cirillo (Fairfield, NJ/DePaul Catholic) pitched four innings out of the bullpen to earn his second decision for TCNJ. Senior
Patrick Roberts (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) led the attack with three hits, including a pair of double, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.
Sophomore Patrick Anderson (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) drove in three runs with a pair of hits.

The Ducks built a 4-0 lead before the Lions pushed three runs across with two outs in the third. Senior
John Rizzi (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) was hit by a pitch and promptly stole second and third. Anderson singled to left to plate Rizzi and get the Lions on the board. Roberts followed with his first double of the day to right-center to score Anderson. After TCNJ loaded the bases, junior
Alex Christian (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) drew a free pass to force in the third run.

The Ducks responded with run in the fourth when Jonathan Toro lifted a sacrifice fly. But the Lions would take command from there. They tallied three more runs in the bottom of the inning, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth and seventh. Six of the nine runs driven came with two outs as timely was key to the win.

Cirillo allowed just one run over four innings and struck out three. Senior
Eric Teesdale (Stratford, NJ/Serling) pitched two and third innings and gave up one run. Sophomore
Matt Curry (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came out of the bullpen in the ninth and struck out the final two batters with the bases loaded to close the game out and earn his first career save.

Rizzi scored a pair of runs and stole three bases in the game. Christian produced two knocks on the day, and second baseman
Ben Varone (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was 1-for-2 with three runs scored.

Zeph Walters, Nick Sieber, Michael Mule', and
Nolan Bennett all had two hits for Stevens. They dropped to 4-5 on the season.

TCNJ will swing south and play nine games from Saturday, March 12 through Saturday, March 19
th. They open against Roger Williams University on the 12
th at 9:15 a.m.
