Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late PK by Jauk lifts Lions to 1-0 win

Ewing, NJ … Joerge Jauk (Lassnitzhoehe Steie, Austria) converted a penalty kick with nine seconds remaining in regulation to lift The College of New Jersey men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Keystone College on Saturday afternoon in the TCNJ Adidas Classic opener.

With less than 15 seconds remaining, a loose ball in the box led to a clean foul just outside the six. Jauk stepped up to bury the game-winner and even the Lions season record at 2-2. The Giants dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

The Lions (2-2) created a multitude of scoring chances throughout the game. They rattled off 15 shots in the opening period and had several dangerous serves run across the goal mouth untouched. The second period was more of the same with TCNJ pressuring throughout. Keystone goalkeeper Malcolm Moreira was up to the task, making 12 saves in the contest to keep TCNJ off the scoreboard.

Sophomore Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) nearly made it a 1-0 match when he ripped a shot that hit the cross bar with 27 minutes to play. Junior Peter Dresch (Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph's) cut loose with a shot with less than 20 minutes to play that Moreira batted away. With just under 11 minutes remaining, freshman Mateo Panizza (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) ripped a shot that caromed off of Moreira's arm and off the post.

TCNJ continued to press and finally broke through as Jauk came up with a clutch PK for his second tally of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Jake Nesteruk (Doylestown, Pa/Central Bucks  East) recorded four saves to register his first shutout of the season.

The Lions are back in action tomorrow when they take on Whitworth University at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.
