Baltimore, M.D. … The College of New Jersey women's soccer team visited Johns Hopkins University for a non-conference matchup this afternoon. The Lions battled their way to a 2-2 tie and now hold a 1-0-1 record.
The Blue Jays (1-1-2) converted a penalty kick with eight seconds remaining in regulation wrestle away a victory from TCNJ. Neither team scored in a pair of 10-minute overtime periods.
Â
TCNJ struck first to take an early lead. Just over two minutes into the game,
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) took a corner kick which floated directly to
Abigail Emmert (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks East), who headed the ball in past the Blue Jays goalie.
Â
In the fifteenth minute of play, JHUs tallied a goal of their own off a corner kick opportunity. Meg Van de Loo netted the equalizer.
Â
During the second half, the Lions regained the lead with a goal from
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville).
Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) threw the ball in from the left sideline to Levering, who then beat the goalie with a shot to the right corner of the net.
Â
With seconds left in regulation, the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty kick and Van de Loo netted her second goal of the afternoon. That capped the scoring as the contest finished in a 2-2 tie.
Â
Jessica Weeder (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) got the start in goal and made a total of three saves throughout the contest.
Â
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, September 14 as they welcome Ursinus College to Lions Stadium. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
