Elizabethtown, Pa … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Elizabethtown College at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 in an evenly played match, the Lions (1-1) surrendered a pair of goals less than two minutes apart late in the opening half. The three-goal deficit was too much to overcome as the Blue Jays moved to 2-0 on the season.

TCNJ cut the deficit to 3-1 when freshman
Mateo Panizza (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) deposited his first collegiate goal in the 67
th minute. The Lions continued to battle to make it a one-goal game, but Elizabethtown's
Duncan George netted his second goal of the season in the 79
th minute to secure the win.

The Lions outshot the Blue Jays 14-13, led by senior
Nick Costelloe (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), who got off six shots. But E'town goalkeepers
Ryan Sandell and
Brian Gately combined for three stops to contain the scoring. TCNJ goalie
Jake Nesteruk (Doylestown, Pa/Central Bucks East) finished with five saves.

Following the Labor Day weekend, the Lions return to action at Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. TCNJ defeated the Ducks 2-1 last season in Lions Stadium.
