Galloway, NJ-- The College of New Jersey men's soccer team (4-7-3, 0-3-3 NJAC) battled to a 1-1 tie against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Stockton University (10-3-2, 2-3-1 NJAC) on Wednesday night.
Neither team was able to strike in the first half. The Ospreys had chances as they tallied seven corner kicks in the period, however the Lions defense remained strong inside the box. The Lions generated four shots in the period to the Ospreys three. In the second half the Ospreys got on the board when Ervin Gjeli scored from thirty yards out in the 67th minute.
The Lions kept the foot on the gas pedal searching for the game tying goal, and in the 85th minute cracked the scoring column.
Abdullah Afridi (Skillman, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) came through in the clutch with his first collegiate goal as he punched one in from the middle of the box to notch the game at 1-1.
Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) came up with a save a minute later to keep the Lions alive. In the 108th minute, Kayal made another key stop.Â
Kayal totaled five saves on the evening. The Lions out shot the Ospreys 18-13, while the Ospreys had the edge in corner kicks 11-4.Â
The Lions return to action on October 14th when they host NJACÂ foe Montclair State University at the soccer complex at 1 p.m.Â
