Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team won their opening dual meet of the 2017 season defeating Division II Southern Connecticut State University 189-100 Friday night.

The team swept the event, winning all 14 individual events and both relays. Senior
Phil Binaco (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) led the way as a member of both winning relays as well as taking home the 50-freestyle in a time of 22.09.

Junior Alexander Skoog (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) won the 100-freestyle in 47.34 and finished second behind sophomore
Harrison Yi (Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) in the 200-freestyle. Yi finished the 200 in 1:43.37 and was runner-up in the 100.

Senior
Logan Barnes (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) had a solid meet winning the 200-breaststroke in 2:18.14 and the 200-IM in a time of 2:04.23. Junior
Sam Maquet (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) swept the 100- and 200-butterfly events in times of 53.52 and 1:56.37 respectively.

Freshmen
Joseph Skotnicki (Sewell, NJ/GCIT) and
Andrew Thompson (Milltown, NJ/Saint Joseph) had impressive collegiate debuts. Skotnicki swept the 500- and 1,000-freestyle events, while Thompson swept the 100- and 200- backstroke.

The Lions return to the pool Friday, October 27 at Montclair State University for the beginning of New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
