Montclair, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team was impressive in its first conference meet of the season defeating Montclair State University 170-122 Friday night. The Lions improve to 2-0 and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Red Hawks fall to 2-2 and 0-1 in league meets.
Joseph Skotnicki (Sewell, NJ/GCIT) continued the impressive start to his TCNJ career, sweeping the 500- and 1,000 freestyle in 4:54.94 and 10:04.63 respectively.
Alex Skoog (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) raced to a pair of victories, taking the 100-backstroke in 53.01 and the 100-freestyle in 47.77. Skoog won both races by over a full second.
Jay Soukup (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) cleaned up in the diving well, sweeping the pair of events.
Andrew Thompson (Milltown, NJ/Saint Joseph's) was busy in the pool, winning the 200-backstroke in 1:59.24 and the 200-IM in 2:03.05. Thompson also finished third in the 1,000-freestyle, an event in which the Lions took home the top three spots.
The Lions return home Saturday, November 4 when they host Ramapo College at 2:00 PM.
