Ewing, NJ-- The College of New Jersey men's soccer team was defeated by Manhattanville College Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup by a final score of 2-1.
The Valiants struck first in the eighth minute. Cristian Araujo took a through ball from John Kyriakidis and found the back of the net to give the Valiants the lead. The remainder of the first half was a stalemate, and both teams were even with six shots a piece. In the 65th minute, Pablo Bravo Olle scored from 25 yards out off of a give and go from Araujo. The Lions refused to go away, and they got on the board in the 80th minute.
Sam Monaco (Point Pleasant Boro, NJ/Point Pleasant) fired a shot from inside the box that ricocheted down off of the cross bar and broke the crease. Monaco was assisted by
Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) who made a strong move from the right corner to beat the defender before he found Monaco. The Lions were unable to generate the equalizer in the final ten minutes.
In net for the Lions,
Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) tallied six saves. The Lions held the advantage in shots 18-15. Eight shots were on goal for the Valiants, while six were on goal for the Lions. The Lions had the upper hand in corner kicks 5-4.
The Lions return to action when they travel to Ramapo College on October 7th.
