Mahwah, NJ-- The College of New Jersey men's soccer team (4-7-2, 0-3-2 NJAC) was defeated by Ramapo College (6-7, 2-3 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest on Saturday by a final score of 1-0.
The first half was a stalemate, as neither team was able to find the back of the net despite having opportunities. The Lions moved the ball downfield as they generated eight shots. The Roadrunners broke the draw in the 50th minute when Guilherme Novales found the back of the net.
The Lions had their chances again in the second half, however could not get one past Roadrunner keeper Ryan Sprague who finished the day with 11 saves. In the second half, the Lions totaled seven shots and the Roadrunners tallied four. The Lions out shot the Roadrunners in the game 15-10, and held the edge in corner kicks 10-3.
Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) was able to get offensive looks as he got off three shots on goal, while
Nick Provenzano (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central) finished with three shots, two being on goal.
In net for the Lions was
Daniel Mecadon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) who made his first collegiate start and finished with three saves. The Lion defense helped Mecadon out, as they only allowed four shots on goal on the game from the Roadrunners offense.
The Lions resume action when they travel to Stockton University for an NJAC game on October 11th for a 7:30pm start.
