Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team extended their winning streak to ten straight games to begin the year, defeating Gettysburg College 1-0 Wednesday night. The third-ranked Lions are 10-0 on the season and are one of just three teams across all divisions, men's or women's, that have yet to concede a goal this season. With the loss Gettysburg falls to 5-3-2.
Â
Both sides were physical early in the game with neither team wanting to cede a yard of space to their opponent. In the 21
st minute the Lions broke through as
Kayla Bertolino (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) freed up enough space to play a cross from the right side.
Taylor Nolan (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) just missed a header, but it forced the Bullets goalkeeper out of position and the ball fell to the foot of
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) who deposited her fourth goal of the season.
Â
The Lions would get many chances, hitting two crossbars and a post, but Bullets goalie Kerry Sampson made eight saves to keep the Lions off the board for the remainder of the game.
Â
The Lions back line of
Ally DeRiggi (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park),
Jen McGrogan (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.), and
Kelly Wieczerzak (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each played every minute in front of
Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus). DiPasquale made a save on the lone shot that she faced, and was even more impressive stopping a point blank opportunity that was called back due to an offside. She has started her career without allowing a goal for 873:24.
Â
TCNJ out-shot Gettysburg 20-1 and is out-shooting opponents 287-36 on the season.
Â
The Lions will host Ramapo College in the soccer complex at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
