Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lions Win Eleventh Straight to Open Season

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team extended their winning streak to eleven games with a 3-0 win over Ramapo College Saturday afternoon. The third-ranked Lions are now 11-0 on the season and 5-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. The Roadrunners are now 1-4 in conference play and 3-8 overall.

TCNJ got a goal from Elizabeth Thoresen (Colt's Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) in the 23rd minute firing in a rebound off a shot she took that had been saved. The Lions would beat the buzzer, scoring with just nine seconds remaining when Alexa Pestritto (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) ripped a 25-yard free kick just inside the far post to give the Lions a 2-0 halftime lead.

Both defenses held for most of the second half, until Hannah Richman (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor) was fouled in the box with just under nine minutes to play. Thoresen calmly finished the penalty kick for her second goal of the game.

Kelly Wieczerzak (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) played every minute in front of Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus), who stopped the lone Ramapo shot for her eighth solo shutout of the season. DiPasquale currently has the 15th-longest consecutive scoreless minute streak in Division III women's history at 963:24.

TCNJ out-shot the Roadrunners 27-1.

The Lions will host Stockton University Wednesday night  at 7:30 PM. Prior to the game, the team's six seniors will be honored.
