Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey punched their ticket to the final four with a definitive 2-0 victory over Centre College Sunday afternoon. The Lions improve to 17-3 with the win, while the Colonels end the year at 17-5.
The Lions got on the board early as the duo that sent TCNJ to this game did it again.
Sidney Padilla (Suffern, NY/Suffern) played a right to left cross onto the stick of
Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown). Andrews hesitated for only a second before ripping a shot past the Colonels goalie.
The Lions extended the lead when
Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotchnology/Freehold Borough) took a long pass, deked by a defender and blasted a shot from the top left of the arc.
TCNJ took the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Lions controlled the game in the second half, not allowing any significant threats. Goalie
Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made four saves and pitched her sixth solo and eighth total shutout on the season.
TCNJ out-shot Centre 13-5.
TCNJ advances to the final four for the 23
rd time in program history, they have won a record 11 NCAA Division III Championships. They will face defending champions Messiah College in the National Semi-Finals. The Falcons defeated the Lions 2-1 in the regular season.
