Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer and field hockey teams will be competing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference finals with the women's soccer team hosting Montclair State University Friday night at 7:30 PM and the field hockey team traveling to Kean University Saturday night at 5:00 PM.
Â
The women's soccer team, currently ranked number two in the country, navigated the regular season unblemished, currently sitting at 17-0 and getting overtime heroics in three games including conference wins over the Red Hawks and nationally ranked Rowan University. In the NJAC Semi-final
Taylor Nolan (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) scored three of the Lions four first half goals as the Lions cruised to a 4-0 victory over Stockton University.
Â
The Lions are led by NJAC Offensive Player of the Year
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville), NJAC Midfielder of the Year
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery), and NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year
Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus). Levering broke the Lions career points record late in the regular season and now just a single goal behind Traci Tapp for that career mark. Goldman is the definition of a two way player routinely dropping behind the ball to aid a back line that surrendered just three goals all season, while also scoring four goals and assisting on six others. DiPasquale was a monster in net, helping the Lions record 15 shutouts in 17 games thus far. DiPasquale is the owner of the seventh longest shutout streak in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer history.
Â
Levering scored on a penalty kick in overtime to push TCNJ past Montclair State 3-2 in the regular season.
Â
The field hockey squad, currently ranked fourth in the nation, navigated the toughest schedule in the South Atlantic Region to the tune of a 14-3 record. The lone blemishes on the Lions record came via three 2-1 losses, all against ranked competition.Â
Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotechnology/Freehold Borough) scored a beautiful goal with 5:01 remaining to break a 3-3 tie in the NJAC semi-final against Rowan University.
Â
Tiefenthaler was named NJAC Rookie of the Year after leading the team in goals finishing second in assists. She became the first player in Lions history to record multiple goals in each of her first three games.
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) was named NJAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading TCNJ in points.
Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) was named NJAC goalkeeper of the year after pitching five shutouts against NJAC opponents to lead the conference in that category.
Â
The Lions will look to avenge one of their three regular season losses. Jenna Patrone took advantage of a loose ball at the top of the arc just 59 seconds into overtime to give the Cougars a 2-1 victory.
