Glenside, PA... The College of New Jersey women's basketball team (8-3) defeated Arcadia University (5-6) in a non conference contest on Saturday by a final score of 74-62.
Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored a team-high 19 points and added seven assists.Â
The Lions grabbed control of the game early, as they raced out to a 9-2 lead with five and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter. Schum found
Kate O'Leary (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) who hit from beyond the arc, then a minute later Schum converted on a lay up to give the Lions the seven point lead. The Lions out scored the Knights in the first quarter 20-11. In the second quarter, the Lions extended their lead to 14 with a 12-5 run. Schum set up O'Leary from three point range, then
Shannon Devitt (Westfield NJ/Westfield) scored a lay up then hit two free throws to give the Lions a 34-20 lead with 2:45 remaining. In the third quarter, Devitt capped of a 9-3 stretch with a lay up that put the Lions up 47-36, and in the fourth they would not look back as they held on to the victory.
Schum scored 19 points on an efficient 7-10 from the field, and played solid defense as she registered three steals. O'Leary scored 15 points and added seven rebounds, while Devitt continued to play well as she scored 15 points and added five rebounds.
Lauren Barlow (Spotswood, NJ/Bishop Wood AHR) scored eight points on a perfect 4-4 shooting off of the bench.
Nikki Schott (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) registered three blocked shots and moved into second place in program history as she now has 145 on her career.
The Lions held the advantage in points off of the bench, as they out scored the Knights in that category 29-6.Â
The Lions will resume action on Wednesday, January 3rd when they will battle New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent William Paterson University on the road at 8:00 p.m.Â
