Ewing, NJ … Senior Michael Kassak (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) took a feed from Peter Dresch (Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph) and deposited the game-winner in the 61st minute as The College of New Jersey defeated Frostburg State University, 1-0 on Friday night in their season opener.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) posted a shutout in his first collegiate match to earn the victory. He stopped a pair of shots in the victory as the TCNJ defense held the Bobcats (0-1) to 11 shots and two on goal.
With the game knotted at halftime, the Lions came out and applied more pressure after the break. Kassak got free in the box on the left side a converted a pass from Dresch to break the scoreless deadlock. Freshman Kevin Esteves (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) nearly made it a 2-0 game when he knocked a shot off the post in the 78th minute.
TCNJ will rest up before taking on Bridgewater College tomorrow at 1 p.m. Bridgewater fell to Mount Saint Joseph's 1-0 earlier today.
