Florham, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team won its second straight match, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham Campus, 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
A pair of head ball goals put the Lions in the driver's seat in the opening half. Senior
Michael Kassak (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) delivered a corner kick in the 23rd minute and freshman
James Pike (Short Hills, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) won it out the air and deposited his second goal of the season.
In the final minute of the first half,
Ryan Vazquez (Kinnelon, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) headed a cross off the foot of sophomore
Matt Decker (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. It was the first collegiate goal for Vazquez.
TCNJ (4-2) dominated play throughout the contest. They outshot the Devils (0-4) 22-10 and forced goalkeeper James Bretschneider to make eight saves.
With 15:49 remaining in the game,
Peter Dresch (Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph's) iced the game with his second tally of the season. He rippled the back of the net in the bottom right corner off a feed from
Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) to cap the scoring. Rookied goalkeeper
Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) registered four saves for his second shutout of the season.
The Lions return home to open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday. They take on William Paterson University in a match that begins at 1:00 p.m. in the TCNJ Soccer Complex.
