Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers Blank Lions in NJAC Opener

Ewing, NJ —William Paterson University scored twice in the first four minutes of the game and cruised to a 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.

The Pioneers won their sixth game in a row with the loss snapping TCNJ's two-game winning streak.

William Paterson (6-1, 1-0 NJAC) opened the scoring just 1:05 into the contest when Charlie Lizardo headed in a pass from JP Gonzales, hitting the lower right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Pioneers made it 2-0 just three minutes later when Cameron Allen scored the first of two goals, converting a crossing pass from Jordan Rosenblum.

Allen beat TCNJ (4-3, 0-1 NJAC) freshman goalie, Michael Kayal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) to the bottom left of the goal in the 38th minute to give William Paterson a three-goal lead heading into intermission.  Kayal made six saves for the Lions.

The best chance for TCNJ came with 20 minutes left in the opening half when sophomore Michael Maltese (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) was stopped on a breakaway by William Paterson goalie Kyle Quigley.  Quigley made five saves for the Pioneers, recording his fifth win of the season and second by shutout.

The Pioneers held a 20-15 advantage in shots with each team having three corner kicks.

William Paterson snapped a two-game losing skid to the Lions.  The Pioneers last defeated TCNJ in 2014, a 1-0 overtime victory.
