Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Levering Heroics Push Lions to Overtime Victory

Ewing, NJ… For the second time in her career against Johns Hopkins University senior Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) found the back of the net after the 90th minute to give The College of New Jersey women's soccer team a victory. The fifth-ranked Lions and ninth-ranked Blue Jays played to a scoreless tie in regulation before Levering's goal provided the 1-0 final.

Following a clearance from the Blue Jays defense, Sophomore Ally DeRiggi (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) chipped a pass over the top of the advancing defenders to set up the lone tally.

TCNJ improved to 4-0 with the win and Johns Hopkins fell to 4-1-1 with the loss.

Levering scored 13 seconds into double overtime against the Blue Jays during her freshman season in 2013. In four career games against Johns Hopkins she has scored three goals and dished out an assist.

Both goalies were rock steady the entire game with Bess Kitzmiller making seven saves in the loss, while sophomore Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) stopped both shots on goal that she faced for the win and her third solo shutout of the season. Neither team had surrendered a goal coming into today's contest.

The back line of DeRiggi, sophomore Jen McGrogan (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.), and senior Kelly Wieczerzak (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) played every minute in front of DiPasquale. The Blue Jays controlled the first ten minutes of play, but after surviving the initial storm the Lions controlled the pace of play.

TCNJ out-shot Johns Hopkins 22 to six and drew 10 corners to the Blue Jays two.

The Lions will now travel to begin NJAC play against William Paterson University Saturday with kickoff at 5:30 PM.
