Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions Offense Continues to Shine

Hoboken, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team continued their offensive dominance with a 9-2 win Thursday night at the Stevens Institute of Technology. The sixth-ranked Lions have now scored 16 goals in their first two contests.

TCNJ moves to 2-0 with the win, while the Ducks drop to 0-2.

The Lions high powered offense was on full display right out of the gate. After the initial shot off the game's first penalty corner was blocked, Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotechnology/Freehold Borough) found Taylor Barrett (Neshanic Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) to open the scoring.

TCNJ continued their excellence off penalty corners as Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) received a pass from Kayla Peterson (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) and ripped a shot past the Ducks goaltender to extend the advantage.

Following a Peterson goal that made the score 3-0, Stevens responded with a goal from Katti Thomasian. Thomasian received a back pass off a corner and ripped a shot that the Lions defense had no answer for.

Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) continued the offensive flurry scoring twice. After a hard slide in a one-on-one situation by the Ducks netminder, Jackie Schwartz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) converted a penalty stroke to give the Lions a 6-1 lead. With exactly a minute to go in the first half Tiefenthaler scored TCNJ's fourth goal off of a penalty corner to provide the 7-1 halftime lead.

The second half continued much like the first with Tiefenthaler scoring her second of the game early in the period. Tiefenthaler, the reigning NJAC Rookie of the Week, now has multiple goals in each of her first two career games.

Caroline Quinn (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) scored her first goal of the season to produce the final score.

The Lions out-shot the Ducks 30-20. TCNJ goaltender Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made five saves to secure her second victory of the season.

The Lions will close out their three game road trip at Juniata College Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
