Galloway, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team (14-5, 9-3 NJAC) was defeated by Stockton University (12-4, 8-4 NJAC) on Wednesday evening in a conference match-up by a final score of 68-45.
The Ospreys opened up the game with a 12-7 lead in the first quarter, and the Lions got the deficit down to one with a jumper from
Jen Byrne (Medford, NJ/Medford). In the second quarter the Ospreys built a lead with a 19-4 stretch, and took a 41-22 lead into the locker room. The Lions were able to get the Osprey lead to 17 points after
Shannon Devitt (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) knocked down a jumper off a feed from
Christine Woods (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) and on the ensuing Osprey possession Woods came up with a steal and took it all the way to convert the fast break lay up. The final 30 minutes the Ospreys controlled the lead to hold onto the victory.
Byrne led the Lions with 15 points and added seven rebounds, while Devitt posted her eighth double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also protected the rim as she came up with five blocked shots.
Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored nine points, added six rebounds, and moved into 11th place in program history in assists as she now has 229 on her career. Â
Prior to tonight's loss, the Lions had won nine out of their previous ten games.
