EWING, N.J. – The 6
th ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team tied with Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference clash on Saturday night by a final score of 0-0. The Lions become 10-1-1 and 6-0-1 in the conference with the draw, while the Red Hawks moved to 9-3-4 including 4-2-2 in NJAC play.
Right out of the gate TCNJ had a pair of excellent scoring opportunities.
Julia Obst ripped a shot from 10 yards out that was saved by Red Hawk keeper Lindsay Freewalt. About two minutes later,
Taylor Nolan sent in a header from in close but Freewalt was able to stop it. TCNJ held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the first half.
The Lions had a few opportunities to score in the second half, yet Freewalt continued to play well in between the pipes. In the 58
th minute,
Faith Eichenour let one fly that sailed just a couple feet over the crossbar.
Lauren McLaughlin had a shot in the 78
th minute that was denied by Freewalt, and in the 83
rd minute Nolan had a look from inside of the box that sailed high. Neither side was able to crack the opponent defense in overtime and the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The Lions had a 23-4 advantage in shots as well as a 13-2 lead in corner kicks. In net for TCNJ was
Nicole DiPasquale, who made a couple of saves to earn her 20
th individual shutout of her career.
Next up for the Lions is a New Jersey Athletic Conference game against Rowan University on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 5:00 p.m. in Lions Stadium. TCNJ will also hold senior night.
