York, Pa. – The 6
th ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team picked up its sixth straight win on Wednesday night with a 1-0 victory over York College (Pa). With the win the Lions improve to 8-1 on the season while the Spartans fall to 4-7.
In the 38
th minute
Arielle Curtis had a shot that was blocked by the York keeper, then over four minutes later
Ally Weaver had an opportunity that was saved as well. The Lions had a 6-0 lead in shots in the first half.
The Lions broke through in the 53
rd minute.
Nikki Butler scored the fifth goal of her freshman season to put the Lions out on top. Butler punched it in after controlling a rebound off of the keeper.
The remainder of the game was controlled by the Lions ironclad defense. The back line of
Ally DeRiggi,
Jen McGrogan,
Nora Burdge, and
Faith Eichenour stifled the Spartan offense as they only allowed one shot on the game. Tonight marks the sixth shutout the Lions defense has posted this season.
In net for the Lions,
Nicole DiPasquale earned her fifth shutout on the campaign.
