No. 6 Women's Soccer Defeats Kean

EWING, N.J. – The 6th ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team won their seventh straight game with a 1-0 win over Kean University on Saturday. The Lions bumped their record up to 9-1 on the year including 5-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Cougars fell to 3-5-4 and 1-2-2 in the conference on the season.

Neither side was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half. The Lions had their share of chances, as they held a 19-0 shot advantage in the opening half. With about seven minutes left to go the Lions lined up a corner kick. Joriam Rivera had a header bounce off of the post, and on the rebound Lauren McLaughlin had a header that was blocked to keep things tied up at 0-0.

In the 57th minute the Lions broke through. Randi Smith sent in a shot that was blocked and popped up in the air. The ball was bouncing around in a crowd, and Ally DeRiggi came up with it and drew a hard foul that resulted in a penalty kick. Arielle Curtis punched in the penalty kick to put the Lions up 1-0. The goal was the third on the year for Curtis.

The defense has been the story all year for the Lions, and they continued to flex their muscles today as Kean only got off one shot. With around 15 minutes to play the Cougars had a runout off of a through ball, yet Faith Eichenour derailed the attempt to keep the zero on the board.

Nicole DiPasquale earned the win in net. It was her seventh of the season and the shutout was the fifth of hers on the year. DiPasquale is currently the active leader in NCAA
Division III in goals against average, with a mark of 0.21 on her career coming into today's game.

On the game the Lions held a 30-1 advantage in shots as well as a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Lions continued a pair of impressive winning streaks. Today's win marks the 25th consecutive regular season NJAC win, and the 20th straight home regular season win as well.

Next up for the Lions is another conference game, this time they will travel to Stockton University on Oct. 10 for a 7:00 p.m. start.
