UNION, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team battled to a draw against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Kean University on Saturday by a final score of 1-1 . The Lions record now stands at 7-4-1 and 1-3-1 in the NJAC, while the Cougars became 5-5-3 including 1-3-1 in the NJAC on the season.
The Cougars got on the board first with a goal in the 18
th minute. The Lions had four shots in the first half but were unable to land any in the back of the net. The Cougars led the shot category by a 6-4 margin in the opening half.
The Lions found the equalizer in the 73
rd minute.
Ryan Santos sent in a cross from the left side to
Ryan Vazquez, and Vazquez flicked it in from in close to notch things up at 1-1.
The goal was the 12
th on the season for Vazquez.
A minute later the Cougars had an opportunity to regain the lead, yet Lion goalkeeper
Michael Kayal came up with two big saves to keep the game tied. His second save was a
stop on a header off of a corner kick. Neither team was able to find the golden goal and the game resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Kayal tallied seven saves in net for the Lions.
Next up for TCNJ is another conference game, this time at home against Stockton University on Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
