EWING, N.J. – On Wednesday night The College of New Jersey men's soccer team tied with Stockton University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game by a final score of 0-0. The Lions are now 7-4-2 on the year and 1-3-2 in the NJAC while the Ospreys are 7-5-2 including 3-2-1 in the conference on the season.
The first half was controlled by the defenses, and the teams went into halftime scoreless. The Lions had an opportunity towards the end of the half, as
Ryan Vazquez had a shot from 12 yards out that was saved by the Stockton keeper.
In the 65
th minute, the Ospreys had a corner kick yet the opportunity was squandered by Lions keeper
Daniel Mecadon. Mecadon punched away several corner kicks that were sent into a crowd on the night. In the 79
th minute the Ospreys had a shot that was saved by Mecadon to keep the game tied. With a minute and a half to play, the Ospreys had a bending shot that bounced off of the post and the game went into overtime.
A couple minutes into the second overtime,
Sebastian Leon let one fly that was heading into the upper part of the net but the Osprey keeper got a hand on it and denied the attempt.
The Lions defensive unit of
Matt Decker,
Dante Bettino,
Joerg Jauk, and
Michael Maltese stifled the Stockton attack and limited their chances. Mecadon tallied four saves and earned his second shutout of the season.
Next up for the Lions is a home game on Saturday, Oct. 13 against conference foe New Jersey City University at 11:00 a.m.
