EWING, N.J. – In the second round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, The College of New Jersey defeated Farmingdale State College by a final score of 1-0. TCNJ improved its record to 15-1-1 on the year while Farmingdale State rounded out its season at 17-4-3.
Just as they did in the first round win, the Lions scored first. In the 25
th minute,
Jen McGrogan sent a free kick from over 50 yards out that wound up being controlled by
Randi Smith inside of the box. Smith beat the keeper from seven yards out to give the Lions the 1-0 edge. The Lions controlled the remainder of the first half to take that lead into the locker room.
In the first half, the Lions held a 9-0 advantage in shots. That trend continued to hold in the second half, as the Lions back line of McGrogan,
Faith Eichenour,
Nora Burdge, and
Alexandra Ryan stifled the Farmingdale State chances to allow only one shot on
the game. TCNJ was able to control the pace of the second half to hold onto the victory and advance to the sectional round.
Nicole DiPasquale earned her 24
th career shutout, which ties her for seventh place in program history for individual shutouts.
The Lions will play in the sectional round next weekend. The opponent and location will be announced tomorrow right here on tcnjathletics.com
