CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team was defeated by Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 56-46. With the loss, the Lions slipped to 7-4 on the season while the Engineers jumped to 8-3 on the campaign.
The Engineers net the first two buckets in the second half to make their lead 34-17. 
Jen Byrne came up with a steal on the defensive end and turned it into a fast break lay-up. On the next TCNJ possession 
Sam Famulare scored from in close, then 
Cailey Gibson hit a pair of free throws to make it an 11 point game.
Byrne scored on a lay-up to cut the deficit back to 11 with 6:13 to play in the third quarter, however MIT controlled the remainder of the game and was able to hang onto the win.
Byrne led all scorers with 21 points on the day on an efficient 8-for-16 shooting. She additionally grabbed eight rebounds and generated three steals. Famulare scored 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor and grabbed three steals, while 
Shannon Devitt pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Next up for TCNJ will be a road game at Smith College tomorrow, Dec. 30 at 2:00 p.m.
