Women's Basketball Cruises Past Moravian

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team picked up a victory over Moravian College on Monday night by a final score of 80-56. The Lions bumped their record to 4-3 on the season while the Greyhounds slipped to 6-2.

The Lions began the game with a 12-7 stretch. Elle Cimilluca found Shannon Devitt down low, and Devitt hit the lay-up. On the next trip down the floor, Kate O'Leary came up with a loose ball, and found an open Jen Byrne on the fast break who made it a five point advantage.

The Lions built a 45-31 lead with a 15-8 run to end the second quarter. Devitt found a cutting Lauren Barlow who converted on the lay-up to put the Lions up 35-25. Cimilluca then hit O'Leary who converted from behind the arc, then O'Leary knocked down another three ball with two seconds left in the half to put TCNJ ahead by 14.

Samantha Bialoblocki provided a spark off of the bench in the third quarter, as she knocked down a three-pointer then hit a fast break lay-up off a Barlow assist to make it 60-40 with three and a half to play in the third quarter.

The Lions continued to build their lead with a 12-3 run in the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth. Rachel Gazzola hit a three-pointer off of a Bianca Nicolini assist to make it a 70-42 game. The rest of the game the Lions controlled to cruise to the victory.

Byrne scored  points and added six rebounds, while Devitt posted her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. O'Leary scored 14 points and tallied three assists.

O'Leary moved into sixth place all-time in made three-pointers, as the three on the night put her at 130 for her career.  

As a team, TCNJ shot an efficient 31-for-59 for 52.5 percent. The Lions were also locked in from downtown, as they went 8-of-20 from three point land for 40 percent.

Next up for TCNJ is a New Jersey Athletic Conference game at Rutgers-Camden on Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m.
