Lions Bats Come Alive in Pair of Run Rule Wins

Osceola, FL… The College of New Jersey softball team ended its spring trip with another pair of run-rule victories, defeating Haverford College 19-3 in five innings and St. Norbert College 14-1 in six innings under the lights. The Lions improved their overall record to 11-3, closing out the spring trip 8-2.
 
The Lions pounded out 36 hits and produced a .545 team average across the pair of games. Jess McGuire (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central), Kaitlin Kocinski (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery), and Gaby Bennett (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) each ripped five hits to lead the way for the Lions. Kocinski popped a two-run homer in the second game, her second long fly of the season.
 
Madison Levine (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) got four hits, including three doubles and a team leading six RBIs on the day. Megan Mayernik (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) continued her hot start to the season with four hits.
 
All 11 batters that came to the plate for the Lions recorded at least one hit, with eight hitters recording three or more. The team went 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts led by three from Bennett. 13 different players recorded runs, as Bennett and Mayernik each crossed home five times.
 
In game one Alanna Namit (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) struck out eight batters across five innings of work to improve to 4-0 on the season. Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic) allowed just three hits across six innings to take her record to 3-1.
 
The Lions next scheduled games are a double header at DeSales University on Tuesday, March 20.
