Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey men's tennis team dropped their first dual meet of the 2017-18 season, falling 8-1 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Sunday morning. The Lions are now 3-1, while the 27th-ranked Engineers improve to 8-2.
The Lions were competitive in doubles as
Omar Bokhari (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) and
Tim Gavornik (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) along with Mat Puig (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) and
Thomas Wright (Upper Saddle River, NJ/Upper Saddle River) each forced a tiebreak. Bokhari and Gavornik were victorious 7-2, while Puig and Wright suffered a 9-7 setback.
The Engineers were dominant in singles play, sweeping the six matches. Puig, Gavornik, and
Chris D'Agostino (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) each took a set in their losses.
The Lions will travel to Haverford College for a dual on Wednesday, March 28.
