Camden, NJ… The College of New Jersey earned their second straight sweep to open the conference schedule, defeating Rutgers-Camden 11-1 in six innings before taking game two 9-1 in five innings. The Lions are now 16-4 overall and 4-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raptors are 9-8 and 2-2 in the NJAC.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the third on a two run single by
Lauren Conroy (). TCNJ scratched across a pair of runs in the fourth and had the bases loaded, when Conroy cleared the bags with a double down the left field line. Conroy went 5-for-8 with six RBIs across the two games.
The Scarlet Raptors scored a run of their own in the fifth, but the Lions would close out the game in the sixth.
Madison Levine (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) singled home a run.
Kaitlin Kocinski (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) continued the rally with a two run double.
Gaby Bennett (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) brought home Kocinski later in the inning to record the 100
th hit of her Lions career.
Alanna Namit (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) was brilliant in the circle allowing just one hit and striking out six over the game's opening four and two-thirds to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Kocinski opened the scoring in the second game with a no doubt home run to straight away center field. She now leads TCNJ with a .477 average and .886 slugging percentage.
Rutgers-Camden evened the score in the bottom of the second, but again the Lions responded. Bennett drove in a pair in the third with a double that dropped just fair down the right. Bennett ripped a pair of hits in both games.
The Lions broke the game open in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch and aggressive base running brought home a pair of runs. Bennett followed with an RBI double and
Helena Coppola (Lincroft, NJ/St. John Vianney) launched the first home run of her collegiate career.
Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) went the distance allowing just a single hit for her fourth victory of the season.
The Lions will host William Paterson University Saturday for a double header beginning at 1:00 PM. TCNJ will honor the top academic achievers between the two games.
