Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team gutted out a win Saturday afternoon, defeating Ithaca College 5-4. The Lions are now 6-2, while the Bombers drop to 3-7.
The Lions took two of three in doubles, with
Tim Gavornik (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) and
Omar Bokhari (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) getting a convincing 8-1 win.
In singles play, it was the Lions depth that carried them through, getting straight-set wins from Gavornik,
Thomas Wright (Upper Saddle Rive, NJ/Upper Saddle River), and
Achyuth Balijepalle (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles to secure the match. Wright was the top performer in singles, winning 6-3, 6-0.
The Lions will compete for the third straight day tomorrow, when they host New York University at 4:00 PM.
