Reading, PA... The College of New Jersey baseball team was defeated by Alvernia University in a non conference game on Monday afternoon by a final tally of 7-6. The Lions drop to 14-5 on the campaign while the Golden Wolves improve to 18-8.
TCNJÂ scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
Austin Lindsay (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) knocked in a run with a base hit to center field.
Jacob Simon (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) followed that up as he ripped a double to left center to make it 2-0, then
Tommy McCarthy (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) drove in a run with a groundout to put the three spot on the board.
Lindsay drove in another run with a groundout to make it 4-2 in the top of the third inning, however the Golden Wolves took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
In the top of the fifth inning, Lindsay recorded his third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly, then
Patrick Anderson (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) ripped a home run to left in the top of the sixth to pull the Lions within one. However the Lions were unable to push across the equalizer in the final three innings.
Nickolas Kleftogiannis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) put forth a strong outing out of the bullpen, as he threw three innings without allowing a run or hit.Â
Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Simon went 2-4 with one RBI.Â
The Lions are back on the road again for a non conference game tomorrow, as they travel to Farmingdale State University for a 3:30 pm start time.Â
