MADISON, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team picked up its second win in as many days as they defeated Marymount University on Saturday by a final score of 3-1. The Lions improved to 2-0 on the young season, while Marymount dropped to 0-2.

Marymount struck first as Ridwaan Robinson scored in the 9th minute. After that, the game was controlled by the Lions. Nick Sample notched things up at 1-1 as he found the back of the net in the 19th minute. Sample took a left-footed shot that went through the arms of the Marymount keeper. Just as they did in their win on Friday, the Lions pressured the opposing defense early as they had an 8-3 shot advantage in the first half. 

In the 56th minute, Sample had a shot bounce off of the post. The Lions would not be denied however, as they went out in front in the 62nd minute. Sample shot into traffic and the ball ricocheted in off of Matt Nastarowicz to give the Lions the advantage. The goal marked the first in Nastarowicz's career. Sample put forward a strong two games in the Drew Fall Festival, as he scored two goals and added an assist.

In net, Michael Kayal registered a key save in the 72nd minute to keep the Lions in front. Only six minutes later, the offense put the game away. Freshman Ryan Santos notched his first collegiate goal which was a big one as it put the Lions up 3-1 with only 12 minutes to play. Abdullah Afridi registered the assist, as the ball was deflected off of the Marymount keeper and collected by Santos to punch it in.

Kayal came up with a pair of saves to earn his first win of the season. 

The Lions outshot Marymount 19-5, with a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. 

The Lions won the Drew Fall Festival team title, as they were the only team to go 2-0 on the weekend. Sample was named offensive MVP, while Matt Decker was named defensive MVP.

Next up for the Lions is the home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5 against College of Mount Saint Vincent at 4:00 p.m.
