DOVER, Del. – The TCNJ football team ran into a well-oiled machine when it traveled to Wesley to face the seventh-ranked Wolverines on Friday night. Wesley scored 27 points in the first quarter on its way to a 62-0 victory.
Wesley scored touchdowns on each of its first four possessions to take a 27-0 lead. Its fourth touchdown of that stretch came on a 1-yard run from E.J. Lee with eight seconds left in the first quarter. That was his second touchdown run of the quarter.Â
TCNJ made a defensive play early in the second quarter.
Jesse Streb intercepted a deflected pass to give the Lions possession at the Wesley 14. A sack on first down pushed the Lions back to the 28, though, and TCNJ couldn't recover as it turned the ball over on downs.
TCNJ recorded a pair of sacks on the ensuing Wesley possession.
Andrew Conzo and
Erik Graham combined on a sack to force Wesley into a long third down play. Later in that same drive,
Antonio Deieso recorded a sack to push Wesley back to the TCNJ 38-yard line.
Streb made another splash play late in the third quarter. He forced a fumble that was recovered by
Luke Young. On the next drive,
Joshua Minick had a 14-yard run and
Dave Jachera rushed for 15 yards on a 4
th-and-3 play. TCNJ pushed the ball as far as the Wesley 9, but the Lions again turned the ball over on downs inside the Wesley red zone.
Mark Pacini rushed for 59 yards on 18 carries.
Zach Warcola averaged 45.6 yards on eight punts with a long of 59. Three of his punts landed inside the 20.
TCNJ returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Salisbury. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
